Lisa of the Kpop group BLACKPINK set a new record for a K-pop solo artist on Spotify, the world’s largest music platform.
According to YG Entertainment, on October 18, Lisa’s solo song ‘MONEY’ exceeded 100 million streams on Spotify. It has been about 37 days since its release on September 10.
This is the shortest period for a Kpop solo artist to achieve 100 million streams on Spotify. With this, BLACKPINK has its 19th billion-streaming music. The previous shortest record for a Kpop solo artist to achieve 100 million streams on Spotify was Rosé’s ‘On The Ground,’ which was 71 days. If you look at only Kpop female solo artists, Jennie’s ‘SOLO’ (125 days) will follow. So, BLACKPINK members occupy the top 3 among Kpop female solo artists.
Lisa’s ‘Money’ is a hip-hop genre song with a minimalistic yet sophisticated sense. Lisa’s vivid and colorful charm doubled. Also, it features addictive brass riffs, strong piano sounds, and unstoppable lyrics.
This song was the first to stand out abroad. She became the first female Kpop artist to top the US Billboard ‘Rap Digital Song Sales Chart.’
This achievement attracted more attention as it broke the high wall of the hip-hop/rap chart, which American artists have dominated.
In fact, after a month has passed since its release, it has been running backward, achieving remarkable results on various global charts. After climbing to the top of the iTunes Top Song Charts in 38 countries, it steadily climbed the global charts on Spotify and recently climbed to 7th place.
During the same period, Lisa entered the UK Official Chart Top 100 at No. 81, and last week jumped 22 places to No. 59. So, Lisa is the first female Kpop solo artist to enter the chart for the second week.
Her performance on YouTube is also outstanding. The exclusive performance video of ‘Money’ surpassed 100 million views in just a week, even though it is not an official music video. The music video for ‘LALISA,’ heading towards 300 million views, was also listed as a new Guinness World Record for ‘the most-viewed YouTube video of a solo artist in 24 hours.’
Meanwhile, Kpop group BLACKPINK member Lisa will participate in DJ Snake’s new single, ‘SG,’ scheduled to release on October 22.
