Yusuf Pathan is an Indian former professional cricketer and politician who has a net worth of $5 million.
Known for his extraordinary power hitting and useful off-spin bowling, Yusuf Pathan became one of the most dangerous limited-overs all-rounders in Indian cricket during the late 2000s and early 2010s. Remarkably, his international debut came in the final of the inaugural ICC World Twenty20 in 2007, which India won against Pakistan. He later became a member of India's victorious 2011 Cricket World Cup squad.
Pathan was an even bigger force in the Indian Premier League. He helped the Rajasthan Royals win the inaugural IPL championship in 2008, producing 56 runs and taking three wickets in the final. Early Life
Yusuf Khan Pathan was born on November 17, 1982, in Vadodara, Gujarat, India. His younger brother, Irfan Pathan, also became an Indian international cricketer.
Yusuf developed as a right-handed batsman and right-arm off-spin bowler. He made his first-class debut for Baroda during the 2001-02 season and gradually established himself as a destructive middle-order batsman whose power made him particularly well suited to the emerging Twenty20 format.
International Career
Pathan received an unusual introduction to international cricket. His first appearance for India came on September 24, 2007, in the ICC World Twenty20 final against Pakistan. With Virender Sehwag unavailable, Pathan opened the batting and scored 15 runs from eight balls as India went on to win the inaugural tournament.
He made his One Day International debut against Pakistan in 2008 and spent the next several years in and around India's limited-overs teams. Pathan's combination of aggressive batting and off-spin gave India an additional match-winning option in the middle and lower order.
His most productive ODI period included two centuries. Pathan was particularly dangerous in run chases because of his ability to radically change the required scoring rate in only a few overs.
Pathan was selected for India's 2011 Cricket World Cup squad, giving him a second world championship medal when India defeated Sri Lanka in the final in Mumbai.

In the IPL final against the Chennai Super Kings, Pathan delivered one of the great all-around performances in league history. He took 3 wickets for 22 runs and then scored 56 from 39 balls, earning Player of the Match honors as Rajasthan won the championship.
In 2010, Pathan smashed a century from just 37 balls against the Mumbai Indians. It was then the fastest hundred in IPL history and remained the record until Chris Gayle reached a century in 30 balls three years later.
Kolkata Knight Riders acquired Pathan at the 2011 IPL auction for $2.1 million, equivalent to roughly ₹9.4 crore at the exchange rate around the time of the auction. He remained with KKR through 2017 and was part of the franchise's championship teams in 2012 and 2014.
During the 2014 season, Pathan produced another extraordinary innings against Sunrisers Hyderabad, reaching 50 in only 15 balls and finishing with 72 from 22. The 15-ball half-century was an IPL record at the time.

When the IPL held another major auction in 2014, Kolkata retained Pathan through its right-to-match option for ₹3.25 crore, equivalent to about $530,000 at 2014 exchange rates. After his long run with KKR ended, Sunrisers Hyderabad purchased him for ₹1.9 crore in 2018, equal to about $280,000 at the exchange rate that year.

Doping Suspension
In 2017, Pathan provided a sample that tested positive for terbutaline, a substance contained in medication he had taken while treating a throat infection. The Board of Control for Cricket in India accepted Pathan's explanation that the substance had been ingested inadvertently through a prescribed cough medication rather than for performance-enhancing purposes.
The BCCI imposed a five-month period of ineligibility, much of which was applied retroactively, allowing Pathan to return to competition in January 2018.
Retirement and Business Interests
Pathan announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in February 2021.
Together with Irfan, he became involved in the Cricket Academy of Pathans, a cricket-training business that expanded to numerous locations around India. His later election filings identified him as a director of Cricket Academy of Pathans Private Limited and Patio Homes Private Limited, as well as a partner in Aris Associates.
His disclosed sources of income included professional fees, rental income, interest, capital gains and dividends, remuneration from the cricket academy, and partnership business income.
Political Career
Pathan entered electoral politics in 2024 when the All India Trinamool Congress selected him to contest the Baharampur Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal.
The race attracted national attention because Pathan was challenging veteran Congress politician Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who had represented the constituency for decades. Pathan won with 524,516 votes, defeating Chowdhury by 85,022 votes.
The victory made Pathan a member of India's 18th Lok Sabha. He subsequently received committee assignments in Parliament, including membership on the Committee on Commerce.
Financial Disclosure
Pathan's 2024 candidacy required him to submit a sworn Form 26 financial affidavit to the Election Commission of India. The filing provides an unusually detailed public snapshot of his finances.
Pathan declared total assets of approximately ₹45.63 crore, equal to about $5.4 million at 2024 exchange rates, and liabilities of approximately ₹11.97 crore, or about $1.4 million. His reported property holdings included commercial real estate in Vadodara, residential property, agricultural land, and a 50% interest in a villa in the United Arab Emirates.
The affidavit also listed investments, jewelry, vehicles, loans and advances, and interests in private companies. Pathan reported taxable income of approximately ₹2.94 crore for the 2022-23 financial year, equivalent to about $366,000 using the average exchange rate for that period. His declared liabilities included a mortgage-related obligation and personal loans, including a substantial amount owed to his brother Irfan.
Personal Life
Yusuf Pathan married Afreen in 2013. His election disclosures list her profession as a physiotherapist. The couple has two sons.
Yusuf and his brother Irfan have remained closely associated professionally as well as personally, most notably through their cricket academy business and their continued involvement in Indian cricket after their playing careers ended.
