‘City of Angels’ Los Angeles is now the city of ‘Army’ fans as Kpop group BTS holds concerts there.
While waiting at LA Airport for immigration screening, so many ARMYs entered LA that employees continued to shout, “Please prepare tickets for the BTS concert to be shown for immigration screening in advance.”
Fans are wearing purple masks and costumes, which are symbols of BTS. Also, most are carrying or wearing BTS merch. They gathered around in twos and threes to give off lively energy. Fans with purple hair seemed not uncommon.
As they gathered in one place for a purpose beyond race and country, their enthusiasm was hot from November 26 (US time), the day before the performance. The front of the concert hall was full of BTS ARMYs who gathered to purchase merch or take pictures in the photo booth. If you don’t know it, you’ll even mistake the performance for being held on that day. Notably, the queue to buy merchandise was enormous. Some ARMY fans came out from dawn and waited for nearly 10 hours.
However, the crowd of the previous day was just the beginning. On November 27, when the performance began in earnest, the place was literally full of fans. There was no end to the lines to purchase merch throughout the concert hall. On top of that, it was not easy to walk from one entrance to another as the entire stadium has layers of fans in line for admission. The entrance began at 5:30 pm, two hours before the start of the performance. But, the line did not decrease even when less than an hour left before the concert’s start.
Not to mention the crowds gathered at the concert hall, but if you turn your head anywhere in the city, such as downtown and Korea Town, as well as near airports close to the concert hall, you can see people armed with purple items or groups of BTS ARMY holding transparent bags that meet the concert hall regulations. Mainly, many ARMYs visited Korea Town and enjoyed the ‘BTS Package’ on their own. ARMYs went there to watch the BTS concert and aimed to visit Korean restaurants or line up at Kpop record shops to buy BTS’s albums and merch.
BTS’s offline concert, held for the first time in more than two years, clearly shows that it is getting closer to more activities amid the ‘COVID-19’ era. The crowds, longing for BTS over the past two years, have gone beyond surprise and admired. It was not easy for even a few people to gather due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The sight in front of my eyes was extraordinary. However, it is also proof that BTS’s comfort to those tired of COVID-19 has been a great help and is returning with great power. It was a moment to actually feel the global influence of BTS, which we can only hear doing remarkable performances on overseas music charts or the news of winning awards at overseas awards due to the COVID-19 situation.
