The number of subscribers to Kpop group BLACKPINK’s official YouTube channel has exceeded 70 million. It is the first and most record among all artists in the world.
According to YG Entertainment, on November 28, the number of subscribers to BLACKPINK’s official YouTube channel exceeded 70 million at 11:34 am on the same day. It is after about five years and five months since the opening of the BLACKPINK channel on June 28, 2016.
They have become the first non-English-speaking artist in the top 5 YouTube subscribers in July 2020. They have overtaken famous pop stars such as Ariana Grande, Eminem, Ed Sheeran, Marshmello, and Justin Bieber. After becoming the world’s strongest YouTuber on September 10, they have finally reached the height of 70 million. So, BLACKPINK further solidifies their position as a queen.
BLACKPINK has grown rapidly, securing millions of new YouTube subscribers every time they release a new song regardless of team or solo activities. Recently, Lisa released her first solo album ‘LALISA,’ and attracted more than 5 million new subscribers. So, it widens the gap with Justin Bieber, the best artist channel before BLACKPINK, by nearly 3.5 million.
YouTube is a major player in the global music market. Also, the number of channel subscribers is one of the meaningful indicators. This is because ‘subscription’ is nothing more than a token of the size of a loyal fandom and their expectations beyond simple curiosity about the content or one-time viewing.
Meanwhile, Kpop group BLACKPINK has produced a total of 32 billion-viewed videos on its YouTube channel alone. Also, the cumulative number of views has reached 21.3 billion. Among them, increasing the number of views of the music video of the latest song has become steeper. Then, the popularity of existing hit songs is still there.
For example, the music video for ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU,’ the title song of the first mini-album ‘Square Up’ in 2018, has surpassed 1.7 billion views, breaking new records for the first, highest, and most views of a Kpop group. In addition, ‘Kill This Love’ (1.4 billion views), ‘Boombayah’ (1.3 billion views), ‘As If It’s Your Last’ (1.1 billion views), and ‘How You Like That‘ (1 billion views) music videos have reached 1 billion views.
