Ilhoon Jung, a former member of the Kpop group BTOB, faces charges related to smoking marijuana. The court sentenced him to two years of imprisonment.
On November 18, the 13th Criminal Division (Chief Judge Soohwan Choi) of the Seoul Central District Court held an appeal trial against Ilhoon Jung, arrested on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act.
On the same day, the prosecution sentenced Ilhoon Jung to two years imprisonment. Also, he will pay an additional fine of KRW 126.63 million.
Reports said that Ilhoon Jung is working with seven people to make illegal purchases from July 2016 to January 2019. Also, there are allegations that he has been using marijuana 161 times in that same timeframe. In response, he was sentenced to two years in prison and an additional fine worth 130 million won in court in the first trial held in June.
Since then, Ilhoon Jung and other defendants have filed appeals against the first trial’s ruling. Also, the prosecution has appealed to both sides on the grounds of unfair sentencing.
He reportedly appealed for leniency by submitting letters of apology to the court more than 80 times after the appeal began.
Meanwhile, Ilhoon Jung made his debut as a member of the Kpop group BTOB in 2012. But, he withdrew from the team in December last year.
